Event Details
Behind the great success of ‘Love, Death + Robots’ there is a lot of creativity and great artistic work, but also a very important part of management, production and business, which is what Able & Baker and Blow will share firsthand. In this talk, they will reveal what it is like to work for the USA and what challenges a study faces working at a distance on a project as complex as this. Blow Studio has made the animation production of the episodes “Three Robots” and “When the Yogurt Took Over” of Netflix’s anthology of animation “Love, Death + Robots”. On the other hand, Able & Baker has made the animation production of the episode “The Dump”.

Meanwhile, as a director he has written and co-directed the short films ‘Project Shell’ (2012), “5” (2015) and ‘Alleycats’ (2017).

After a time collaborating with different companies as a freelancer, in 2009 he began working at Vodka Capital, a place that aroused his curiosity for the creation and development of content. After having worked in practically all the departments involved in an animated production, he decided to found Able&Baker, where he could integrate his experience from executive production.

Many Animation professionals want to make a personal comic to enjoy the creative freedom it offers, as many comic professionals dream of working conditions and the support of the animation sector, but very few have had the opportunity to jump from one side to the other, much less work on both at the same time. This is the case of our guests.
Our guests have found a way to reconcile a professional career in one of the Animation cinema stalls and successfully publish a comic book.
Is it possible to alternate both work profiles? What skills are transferable from one area to another and which have to be totally different? From the professional point of view, what are the advantages and disadvantages? Are Animation and Comic really connected or are they just two different work areas in which there are cartoons?

Get out of the cave to look for new audiences! There are hooks that can attract other audiences to your project that you might not have thought of, through music, humor or kawaii aesthetics. This is the case of The Rivers of Alice from Delirium Studios, with which they got many fans of Vetusta Morla’s music to put themselves in front of a command for the first time or the irresistible aesthetic and kawaii subculture that he uses in all his Platonic Games games until the posthumor of Héctor Bometón and how he has taken it to the video game in the daring bet of Superego, a documentary graphic adventure.

The ability to run processes remotely and stream them is a revolution that changes everything. Google Stadia is a clear example, and Google’s experience with Machine Learning is critical to further dilute the concepts of audience and user, of static and limited experience. In this talk we will discover with Raúl Rubio Munárriz what Stadia brings from the point of view of design, engineering and software creation, and how everything changes.

Sometimes we get obfuscated with our animation or video game project and we reach a point where we ended up abandoning it because it does not get ahead. What if instead of leaving it we think a little further? What if we have not chosen the proper format of our project? After all, this is about creating experiences, isn’t it? What if our project we had thought for animation really is a great video game or vice versa? This is what is happening with #Blud, which was born as an animated short film and along the way it became a video game. At Exit 73 Studios, everyone loved the characters and style of the original #Blud pitch, but the turning point came when they got together with two programmers to turn everything around and reinvent their project. Now as a video game it has generated a lot of expectations, even having reviews in prestigious journals such as EDGE and will soon be a reality thanks to thinking differently and synergies with other sectors.
#Blud GameplayCHRIS BURNS
Chris Burns is the Co-Owner and Animation Director of Exit 73 Studios, a small boutique studio, specializing in short form animation, with a focus on traditional animation. Let’s Be Heroes’. Exit 73 studios, has recently decided to dedicate their time to making a fully traditionally animated video game called ‘#BLUD: A cartoony vampire hunting adventure!’
