A total of 10 domestic and 28 international works will be screened in Valencia between September 26th and October 1st. These screenings will be held at the Filmoteca Valenciana and will be attended by some of the filmmakers and their technical and creative teams. In addition, the creation of a new section (Weird Talent) has been announced and the 12 companies that will participate in the recruitment day have been confirmed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>WFest<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> festival, a key part of Weird Market, has selected a total of 10 works for its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/weirdmarket.es\/en\/wfest-selection-2023\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">domestic competition<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2023. Some of them are already known by the audience of the sector\u2019s benchmark Spanish event, such as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All is lost<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Goya nominees Carla Pereira and Juanfran Jacinto, a work that was screened at the festival last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Local talent makes its mark with five Valencian productions: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interns <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by Marina Donderis, Nuria Poveda and Marina Cort\u00f3n; <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Motelli, a hopeless cat<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Ben Fern\u00e1ndez; <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wooden Mirror<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Sergi S\u00e1nchez (co-production with Italy); <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All good <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by Diana Aci\u00e9n Manzorro, born in C\u00e1diz, but settled in the Valencian capital since her training years; and the above-mentioned <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All is lost <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0by Carla Pereira and Juanfran Jacinto.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The list is completed by <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conej<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">steps out <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by Pablo R\u00edo, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Humbug Manor<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Juan Carlos Mostaza, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sandwich Cat<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by David Fidalgo (winner of the Audience Award at the SXSW Festival), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To bird or not to bird<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Mart\u00edn Romero, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">White noise<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Yuri Rojo.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">28 WORKS IN THE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/weirdmarket.es\/en\/wfest-selection-2023\/\"><b>international competition<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will comprise 28 short films from countries as diverse as Hungary, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, Colombia, Ecuador, Portugal, Israel, Japan and South Korea, among others. A variety of works and techniques where the traditional 2D predominates, but includes productions created in 3D, stop motion or mixed techniques that capture a snapshot of the current animation scene worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Themes related to current events are intertwined with productions that take inspiration from other arts, as in the case of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La Notte<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the work of Italian Martina Generali, which is based on Antonio Vivaldi\u2019s concerto of the same name.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The selection combines emerging artists with renowned animators such as Owen Klatte, who after participating in major titles such as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nightmare Before Christmas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">James and the Giant Peach<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, presents his first independent short film. Another outstanding name is Oscar-nominated Koji Yamamura from Japan, producer of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The House of Loss<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, directed by Jinkyu Jeon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other works include the Oscar-nominated <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ice Merchants <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by Portuguese director Jo\u00e3o Gonzalez or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s Nice in Here<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Robert-Jonathan Koeyers, which participated in the Cannes Festival, and\u00a0 short films selected in leading festivals worldwide such as Toronto, Edinburgh, Annecy, or Clermont-Ferrand, as well as Spanish pre-selection festivals for the Oscar Awards such as Zinebi, Huesca or Sitges.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NEW SECTION: WEIRD TALENT<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2023, the cinematographic part is expanded with a new section called <\/span><b>Weird Talent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. A non-competitive screening made up of domestic short films that are part of the market and whose directors are considered by the organizers as names worth \u201ckeeping on the radar\u201d in the words of Jos\u00e9 Luis Farias, director of Weird Market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weird Talent includes a total of 7 works from emerging creators, students, and filmmakers with a proven teaching career. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/weirdmarket.es\/recruitment-2023\/\"><b>recruitment day<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that every year promotes job creation and facilitates meetings between companies and professionals is an example of this.
