WEIRD MARKET AND 3D WIRE FEST PRESENTS ITS 12TH EDITION “FOR SEGOVIA AND FOR THE WORLD”
The 12th edition of the Weird Market and the 3D Wire festival presents the programming of what will be its 2020 edition; Between September 28th and October 4th, the Segovian event will once again become a benchmark for the animation, video games and new media sector with a “hybrid” format. The event will combine in-person screenings with multiple online activities of professional nature. “Given the current socio-sanitary situation, Weird Market and animation and video games in general show their capacity for adaptation and strength. Its celebration is a sign of commitment to the territory, as well as to all the professionals that make up the industrial network both nationally and internationally”, says José Luis Farias, director of this market.
One of the fundamental axes since the creation of this event is its commitment as a catalyst for new talents and for this reason it will once again launch various ‘recruitment’ sessions. A total of 9 studies, all of them national and international, will carry out multiple interviews in order to complete their teams. The companies already confirmed are Skydance, Nu Boyana FX, Lightbox Animation Studios, Hampa Studio, 3 Doubles, Aupa Studio, Uniko, Ooolala and Mago Production.
The online programming will consist on numerous activities such as 12 conferences and 59 project presentations open to all audiences via streaming. An initiative never carried out before in this market and that represents a step forward within its scope. Viewers from all over the world will be able to follow them for free from their homes.
The promotion of the human potential of the territory will be another outstanding aspect of this edition; With this objective in mind, a training session has been organized for the students of the University of Valladolid, the title of which shows its importance and practicality for future professionals: “The possibilities and outputs of animation and video games”. The mayoress of Segovia herself, Clara Luquero, announced it and highlighted that “this type of initiative places us on the international front line as a city and offers a privileged showcase for local talent.”
The Weird Market figures show its international weight. A total of 43 short films in competition from 24 different countries. Along with these, 203 animation, video game, transmedia, web series, comic and board game projects, of which 59, from 15 countries, will be presented by their authors. Likewise, there will be a private viewing platform for all the works included in the catalog for accredited programmers, distributors and buyers. Some data highlighted by Raúl Fernández, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Junta de Castilla y León, that pointed out the “success” they represent, while showing the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism “for a proposal with great future projection, within the cultural offer of Castilla y León, behind which there is a solid teamwork and the unanimous support of the institutions ”.
Other institutions such as Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) maintain their support as a sign of the specific weight of the event for culture. Members of the jury and speakers such as Edwina Liard, Melissa Vega, Bruno Caetano and Julia Duarte participate in this edition thanks to their support and to their Program for the Internationalization of Culture in the call for PICE Visitors.
INTERACTION WITH THE AUDIENCE
The novelties of this year have a common link and it is the direct connection with the public, both physical and virtual. One of them is the realization of a drive-in theatre where you can see the short films in competition of the 3D Wire Fest (in addition to the screenings -with limited capacity- of La Cárcel Espacio de Creación). The square of Larra will become an ideal space for this type of viewing from the vehicle; the appointment will be on Friday and Saturday in double session, at 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
In a complementary way, the Palacio de Quintanar will continue to occupy a prominent place. A marathon has been organized with the best short films selected of this edition that will make it an audiovisual reference space for all citizens.
Another of the proposals is “The talk of the audience”; finally there will be three presentations prepared by the audience and chosen by it through social media. ” Life is what happens while you make a short film” by Carmen Córdoba, “How to “flirt” at online festivals” by Irene Chica and Eva Pérez Misa and “Music is super important in my project (and that’s why I don’t pay any fucking attention to it until the end)” by Joseba Beristain Azipuru, are the winning titles.
In this same aspect, we have the GIF contest that is open until September 30th and whose objective is to combine the talent of the creators, with emblematic places of the city of Segovia, headquarter of the event. With free theme and technique, the only requirements are that they are original pieces and that one of the backgrounds provided by Turismo de Segovia is used; Each author may present up to three works of a maximum duration of 30 seconds. The prizes, of an economic nature, will have an amount of € 250 and will be two: Best Young Castilian-Leon Creator Gif and Best Gif.
